I’m not exactly in line with his politics, but I have become an avid reader of the War Nerd (at Exiled). His commentary is almost always insightful, and he does a good job at connecting the dots. His coverage of the Russia-Georgia war and the Mumbai terrorist attacks have been excellent. Some NSFW language.

These have been around for a while, but I never spent the time to find the whole list. Basically Eddie Izzard skits acted out in stop motion using legos. As I love the original stand-up comedy, the legos are an added (but well executed) bonus.

Saw Eddie Izzard last night at DAR Constitution Hall last night with J. The acoustics were horrible, so I only caught about 85% of the show. It was pretty fresh, unlike Sexie. He did riffs on Wikipedia (pulling out an iPhone on stage to look something up in Wikipedia), Apple vs PC Software updates, god vs. no god, the history of the world, intelligent design vs. evolution, and how some figures from the bible were probably real. Many God and Dinosaur impressions – no Sean Connery, no James Mason. Oh yeah, and no womens’ clothing.

The quotable lines, I believe, will be:
• “Monkey, Monkey, Monkey, You”
• Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s ox? That’s the whole basis of trade!
• The bible journalists were here!
• Rawr (dinosaur impression)

The DC crowd was a bit antsy since the show started almost 30 minutes late and, as mentioned, the acoustics sucked. There was a lot of yelling from the audience for Eddie to this this and that, which he took graciously for most of the show. Some of his stuff did fall flat (there was a lot more of the “scribbling notes to self about not using this joke or that joke” than in the previous acts I’ve seen).

Dressed to Kill still sets the bar, but, in my opinion, this takes the second spot easily.

Would that be because he was named in it? Or is it the ‘roid rage coming through?

I’ve taken to listening to broadcasts of old radio serials (like Gunsmoke, Dragnet, etc.) while working. Maybe it’s a phase, maybe not… In any case, the best one I’ve found is “The Big Broadcast. It’s relatively simple to strip the link out of the asx file and download the whole show at once, and at 4 hours, it’s got a load of decent content.

Could be a photoshop, or a planted sign, whatever – I’m sold.

Anyone else get the feeling that this DST change thing is going to be as catastrophic as y2k was cracked up to be? Not too much hype going on about the fact that EVERY computer needs to be patched. Will we wake up Sunday morning to ATMs spitting out money, planes veering off course, nuclear missiles being launched? Not to mention people not knowing what time it really is on Monday cause the computer clocks are all saying different things?

I don’t know, but I think I’m going to stay inside Sunday, just in case

For Christmas, J bought me a bar set – cocktail shaker, stainer, ice bucket, jigger and a tray. So I went out a bought a bar guide to figure out some drinks I could mix (amateur bartender that I am). We are pretty understocked on liquor and supplies here at home (there’s a bottle of single malt scotch and about half a bottle of vodka here). Luckily, the bar guide defines what a “well stocked bar” should have. Not so lucklily, this list is intended to supply all the drinks needed for a three hour party for 20 guests. I’ve pared it down somewhat to what I think a home collection should have to last…
