Because it has whispersync, it will keep books on your kindle and your iphone in sync - so if you're reading the book on the kindle and then pick it up on the iphone, you will be at the spot you off reading on the kindle (and vice versa, and, as noted, only for books bought through amazon). So, this app makes sense if you're waiting for short periods of time (like for the train, or in line), not for reading entire books via the phone. People saying that the iphone is a cheaper replacement device for the kindle ($299 vs. $359) are missing the point - amazon is going after people who own both devices (like J and I).
